“Thousands of times more secure than bcrypt”

Mr_Bond on #dragonflybsd passed along a link to Colin Percival’s post about scrypt, a “provably as strong as possible” encryption function that is designed to withstand brute force attacks.  This was presented at BSDCan 2009, but his post has more details and links.

DCBSDCon videos

Murray Stokely very kindly passed me a link to his summary of the 8 videos now online showing presentations from the recent 2009 DCBSDCon.

Of particular interest is Robert Luciani’s talk about M:N threading in DragonFly.  Yes, that’s the same Robert Luciani who is participating in Summer of Code with DragonFly to profile kernel contention on multiprocessor systems.

BSD event tracking

There’s a lot of BSD-related events and conferences happening; enough that it’s difficult to track them all.  Dru Lavigne has a very good idea: Twitter them at @bsdevents.

BSDTalk 170: McKusick at DCBSDCon

BSDTalk 170 has Marshall Kirk McKusick (His first name’s Marshall?  Thought it was Kirk.) talking almost an hour of BSD history at the recent DCBSDCon.  I’m assuming it’s going to be the first of several recordings coming from that event.
