AHCI update for NVIDIA
If you’ve got a MCP79 NVIDA-chipset board, Sascha Wildner’s commit of Ed Berger’s port from OpenBSD has you covered.

Samuel Greear has a totally untested update to the NVIDIA video driver available. It may not work, but it’s not like that’ll be any different than the current state of the driver.
This has been around for a while, but I’m re-mentioning it because it’s not really linked anywhere: Simon ‘corecode’ Schubert has a version of the FreeBSD NVIDIA video driver that should work on DragonFly: http://gitweb.dragonflybsd.org/~corecode/nvidia.git. It should be possible to clone from that link, build the code, and use it. (Untested by me – if …
It’s been mentioned before, but it’s moved: Simon ‘corecode’ Schubert has a version of the FreeBSD NVIDIA graphics driver that works on DragonFly.
Simon ‘corecode’ Schubert has a experimental version of the NVIDIA FreeBSD driver changed for DragonFly; the code is available without any support so it’s not as simple as a download, unfortunately.
‘Timofonic’ spotted this post by an NVIDIA employee describing the changes needed for better performance/support of NVIDIA chipsets in FreeBSD. This could apply to DragonFly., though I daresay these issues would already be fixed (or at least worked on) if it wasn’t a closed-source driver. Of course, while I’m at it, I may as well …
Since DragonFly has been diverging from the FreeBSD 4 model, and because NVIDIA no longer produces a FreeBSD 4 X11 driver, there is no 3D acceleration for NVIDIA chipset video cards under DragonFly. It’s frustrating, though there are efforts to deal with this. Looking at the latest version of xorg, there is mention in a …
Jonas Sundstrom pointed at a open source NVIDIA driver that supports 3D, and currently runs on BeOS. Could it work under X? Maybe, with a pile of work.
Emiel Kollof warns that the newest binary driver from NVIDIA is now FreeBSD-5 specific, and so does not yet work on DragonFly. If you’ve got a working driver now, don’t upgrade.
Emiel Kollof has posted a patch fixing the NVIDIA binary video driver override; this still does not provide Linuxulator support, but it should otherwise work.
… but it’s still being worked on.
The ports/x11/nvidia-driver port currently stops during build with an error about vnode_if.h. This is being worked on.
Emiel Kollof has updated (Jeroen Ruigrok/’asmodai’ committed) dfports/x11/nvidia-driver to version 6.1.1.3.
The FreeBSD NVIDIA driver has been updated; Emiel Kollof has a test DragonFly version of this new update he’d like people to try out.
Emiel Kollof is working on a new version of the NVIDIA driver to match their upcoming new release. He’s also working on the settings application. Also, Emiel posted a patch to submit@. If you are using the NVIDIA binary griver, please try it out.
Emiel Kollof’s changes to the NVIDIA binary video driver have been committed; it will no longer break with the recent /dev changes.
Emiel Kollof has fixed up the NVIDIA driver – This diff makes it possible to update your kernel and still use the driver; the change to the dfports override is forthcoming.
The latest dev numbering changes from Matt Dillon will break the NVIDIA binary driver, if you are using it. Emiel Kollof is working on a new version, and until that’s set, avoid updating if you want to keep your NVIDIA driver working.
Emiel Kollof’s most recent changes (committed by Matt Dillon) to the NVIDIA binary driver are in.
Not much happening right now. A few people have noticed that the binary NVIDIA driver doesn’t seem to work; big surprise there, with the system being in rapid change. Otherwise, puttering with the new RCNG services layout continues. In local news, I have the DragonFly mail archive mostly working now, including the kernel list.
