If you, disregarding the long nice commit message, is still at loss to purpose of exislocks, then please follow thread in commit mail archive.
Michael Neumann has some quite interesting discussion with Matt on the subject.
It will be interesting to se exislocks in use; I guess Matt is working on that ;). Some good usage examples is often worth more than a long description (aka: one picture is better than 1000 words). Will be interesting to see in action, including code complexity and performance.
