Aaron LI wrote a tool to update a running DragonFly system from an existing image – release or snapshot. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s very promising. It’s up on Github so if this gets you excited, you know what to do.

Is there any negatives to using this tool?
Manual reintegration of modified files. I haven’t tried it of course, so it is speculation.

G: I mainly follow the official installation and “make upgrade” processes to implement this tool, so there shouldn’t be any negatives. But I may miss something, and there are several things can be well improved. Anyway, tests, issue reports and pull requests are very appreciated.
Aaron, very cool. Nice trick mounting the new image (folks often forget tricks like that). Merging of /etc and other config files: maybe FreeBSDs mergemaster can help there?
