Jan Lentfer has accomplished something rather dramatic: the removal of BIND from the base system. It’s not actually out yet, but I daresay it will be after the 2.6 release, freeing people up to install any DNS server from pkgsrc – including BIND.

Justin, can you share the technical reasons for the removal ?
IIRC, this was the stuff that earned Lentferj his commit bits.

The reason is probably so that he won’t have to update it again. :)
More exactly, it’s already getting updated in pkgsrc, so we may as well take advantage of that labor. Plus, people can pick other packages.
