Why is switching a compiler so difficult?

  2. Switching compilers: machine dependent code. Optimizations. Assumptions coded in based on a different compiler. Name/Symbol mangling.

  3. Plus GCC was the only compiler available for so many years, a lot of GCC-specific assumptions crept into everyone’s code. Or at least that’s what I’ve seen a lot when people are working to integrate clang.
