Java rumors

Sun is reportedly thinking about open-sourcing Java. There’s no timeline or specific commitment, so it all could be rumors. While Java for FreeBSD works on DragonFly (or so I’ve heard), it’d be nice to have it work officially, without jumping through license hoops.

  1. The problem is NOT that Java is not OSS, the problem is that the license prohibits redistribution of non-compliant versions.
The current BSD patchset is still not complete and stable enough to pass the Sun Testsuite and therefore we can’t provide e.g. binary packages.
