This is the first time I’ve seen an article about turning features off. In this case, stereo sound on BSD.
Downmixing from stereo to mono is a feature! E.g. when sharing a single pair of earbuds between two people, or when one of your speakers is not-quite-dead. There’s also applications in audio processing that don’t need stereo sound.
