I’m using a surplus – fortunately, I didn’t have to pay for it :^) – Philips foot control – https://www.dictation.philips.com/gb/products/transcription-accessories/foot-control-acc2300/
I didn’t have it configured for vi(1) specifically – remapped CAPS_LOCK to ESC for that ;^) – but used it for other desktop-related tasks via usbhidaction(1) – https://man.openbsd.org/usbhidaction.1 It has 4 “buttons” and is a great improvement to one’s productivity. I highly recommend it if you can get your hands on one :^)
