ipf goes away

ipfilter has now been removed from DragonFly, by Sascha Wildner.  We now have “only” ipfw2 and pf for software firewalls.

I am a little sorry to hear about ipf no longer being in Dragonfly BSD. It is a great firewall package but can understand the project perhaps wanting to consolidate tools and focus on other areas.

That said, I do enjoy working with IPFW more than any other BSD Firewall, and really like the way you can define different rulesets for IPv4 and IPv6 via rc.conf in Dragonfly. PF is a great choice too of course. Regardless, thanks for sharing your work with the rest of us.

Wait for OpenBSD 5.0/5.1 before synch as Henning & co has found some bottlenecks in dupe IP checksumming.
